Summary (Goodreads):
With the Brotherhood persecuting witches like never before, a divided Sisterhood desperately needs Cate to come into her Prophesied powers. And after Cate’s friend Sachi is arrested for using magic, a war-thirsty Sister offers to help her find answers—if Cate is willing to endanger everyone she loves.
Cate doesn’t want to be a weapon, and she doesn’t want to involve her friends and Finn in the Sisterhood’s schemes. But when Maura and Tess join the Sisterhood, Maura makes it clear that she’ll do whatever it takes to lead the witches to victory. Even if it means sacrifices. Even if it means overthrowing Cate. Even if it means all-out war.
In the highly anticipated sequel to Born Wicked, the Cahill Witch Chronicles continue Cate, Maura and Tess’s quest to find love, protect family, and explore their magic against all odds in an alternate history of New England.

In just a few days Star Cursed by Jessica Spotswood will be hitting the shelves! I met Jessica back in 2012 during the Breathless Reads Tour. I had picked up Born Wicked because although I wasn’t sure I would like it (witches are not usually my thing) I did love the cover and wanted to give it a shot. Since the tour, I read and reviewed Born Wicked right around the time I met Jessica again in Boston. Now all this lead me to the 2013 Breathless Reads Tour where I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Star Cursed by being a VIP of the event.
In this second installment of the Cahill Witch Chronicles Jessica lives up to my last review:
“Jessica also nailed the relationships of the sisters. I am the oldest sister with a younger sister (four years my junior), I see my own relationship with my sister reflected in the relationship between Cate and Maura. Then we have the beautiful romantic relationships, and as I do not want any major spoilers I will just say that Jessica creates the perfect kisses leaving this girl swooning. <3
I gave this beautiful novel a 4/5. If you love historical fiction, strong female characters, good kissing scenes, and witches this is a book for you. :)”
Not only does Jessica’s writing nail the sister relationship (which is harder than you think!), Jessica also shows two different types of sisterly relationships. The contrast in how Cate and Maura interact versus how Cate and Tess react brings a depth to these characters in a way I have never quite seen before.
Jessica also makes good on her promises for more kissing and heartbreak. Although I knew (and should have suspected anyway) that there would be a twist at the end leaving you hanging on the edge of your seat waiting for the next book…I still never saw the twist coming!
I give Star Cursed 4/5 stars: if you love strong characters, swoon-worthy kissing, witches, and thought-provoking novels, Star Cursed is a book for you.
