Life has been busy on the web for me! Today I am featured on All Kinds of Writing with an interview about my work as an author assistant. I hope you all enjoy this glimpse into my life and work!
So, you’ve published your story! You’ve made it available in print and as an ebook. You’ve let the retailers know so now, it’s listed on Barnes & Nobles, Amazon, Smashwords and wherever else you can think of that sells books.
So now what?
Are the sales higher or lower than you expected? Are you overwhelmed with blog tours and book signings or underwhelmed by the lack of them?
What is an author to do?
Today, instead of my usual author feature, I’d like to introduce you to the lovely Kate “K8” Tilton, author assistant extraordinaire!
KT: Thanks for having me Lorna! I’m excited to share with your readers about what I do.
…
Can you tell us exactly what the job of an author assistant entails?
KT: In a word, no, but I’ll try. Each assistant job I do is different and my list of services is always growing. In publishing and social media there are always changes happening, like new jobs for authors and their author assistants. A lot of what I do falls under one of two categories: admin or marketing. On the admin side; sending information about the authors/books to those who request it, updating websites, organizing spreadsheets, mailing out prizes. On the marketing side; reaching out to reviewers, creating press releases, creating book jacket copy, running street teams, creating newsletters. Being an author assistant requires a lot of natural talent and the ability to always be learning, multitasking, and organizing.
