About Dylan Debelis:
Dylan D. Debelis is a buckaroo in western shootout. His award-winning work is raw, playful, and cathartic. Dylan is a minister, chaplain, poet, performer, and alligator wrestler based out of New York, NY. His most recent full-length book of poetry, The Garage? Just Torch It. is out now through Vine Leaves Press.
About The Garage? Just Torch It:
The Garage? Just Torch It. is a romp through grief. A series of vignettes written during my work as a burn intensive care unit chaplain, the book came together while I was giving spiritual care to severely disfigured women and men whose lives had been forever changed. When I was writing it in the hospital I would constantly look around and think to myself ‘what does grief look like today?’ and then I would write. Funnily enough, grief sometimes looks like joy or laughter. Sometimes it also looks like fear or tears.
The book spans subjects like Professional Wrestling, politics, and growing up without a father in the Pacific Northwest. But really, the book is about how we can make a home in our grief. It asks us the question: “okay, so life is hard, what are you going to do about it? And when there’s nothing to do about it, what then?”
I had a blast writing it and I hope any of you who pick it up have a blast reading it!
