I have been taking carefully reading over the submissions to our end of the year survey and a few people have mentioned that they enjoy the more personal, life-based posts. So today we are pulling back the curtains and giving you an inside look at an average day in my life as an author assistant.
On busy days:
- 8:30am – Wake up, check phone for emails and social media messages. Play story-based games (my form of coffee).
- 9:00am – Get ready for the day. Usually this means acquiring breakfast, putting on the contacts, and getting the computer started.
- 9:30am – Schedule personal social media with Buffer.
- 10am – Schedule social media for the companies I work for (again using the handy tool that is Buffer).
- 11:30am-12:00pm (depending on the day) – Start work for my authors which can be anything from consulting on the latest promotional idea to putting up blog posts and making a schedule for the author. One of the greatest joys of being an author assistant is the variety of things you get to do for authors. The other is knowing what you are doing is helping those around you.
- 4pm – Catch a late lunch and catch up with everyone on social media.
- 5pm – Start on college work (just one more class to go, hallelujah!).
- 8pm – Start on the unpaid work that needs to be done to keep the business running.
- 10pm-11pm (depending on the day) – Get ready for bed with some more excellent story based games.

On “slow” days:
- 8:30am – Wake up, check phone for emails and social media messages. Play story-based games (my form of coffee).

- 4pm – Catch a late lunch and catch up with everyone on social media.
- 5pm – Watch an episode or two of TV
- 8pm – Start on the unpaid work that needs to be done to keep the business running.
- 10pm-11pm (depending on the day) – Get ready for bed with some more excellent story based games.
On the weekends it is a mix of:
- Check phone for emails and social media messages.
- Play story-based games (my form of coffee).
- Enjoy some TV.
- Read a good book.
- Work on school.
- Work on the unpaid work that needs to be done to keep the business running (if I can stop procrastinating).
- Go to church.
- And on the occasion see a friend or two.
And that is the average day for an author assistant. We keep pretty busy but when work is something you look forward to everyday it doesn’t feel so much like work. I’m blessed to be able to do what I do everyday and I hope you’ve enjoyed this little inside peek!

Aww, Kate! You make my life seem pretty lazy! (Which it is, but STILL haha). Your schedule is quite busy but I’m glad that you enjoy it a lot, that’s why it’s effective. I wish someday my days could be as organized as yours. Maybe after college? 😉

Haha! Most days I feel lazy believe it or not! Usually when I don’t stick to my plan listed above or work on the weekends, I feel like I’m slouching.
This is an average day which is pretty organized when I stay in and work but even I have days where things go whichever way they want. I think having the goal of being flexible to let that happen is best, if we are too controlling over our time we won’t make it through those times when things are out of our control. You know?
And you do so much! You are certainly not someone I’d call lazy 😉
