Albert the Alien 1: New in School by Trevor Mueller
Source: Purchased
Purchase: Amazon
I LOVE this comic series! Albert is such a fun character. The story is funny, lighthearted and filled with great lessons for us all. I found that some of the transitions from panel to panel were a little confusing as if there was a piece of the narrative missing, but overall Albert is one of my new favorite comics. If you like aliens, humor, and comic books, Albert the Alien is for you.
The Self-Publisher’s Quick & Easy Guide to ISBNs and Barcodes by Joel Friedlander
Source: Included in an online course
Purchase: Amazon
This is a quick guide compiled from blog posts found on Joel’s website, The Book Designer. The guide provides a quick read for authors and publishing professionals who want to know more about these mysterious little numbers, while providing enough information to guide readers. This guide does lean towards the pro-ISBN opinion that not all self-publishers are now in favor of. Regardless it gives authors important information to understand these numbers and how they can be beneficial to authors.
Dear Carolina by Kristy Woodson Harvey
Source: Gift from author
Purchase: Amazon
Dear Carolina is a lovely contemporary story of two strong women, family, love, and finding your way. Normally I’m not a contemporary fiction reader, but the summary caught my eye and I was lucky enough to snag an advanced copy. What I love most about this tale is the growth both Jodi and Khaki experience. Jodi, just a teen, learns to find her way out from addiction and to a life she is proud of. Khaki learns that it is okay to say no and focus on the things that matter most, and that those things may change in time. My only complaint was the huge use of similes in the book, but I found that the more I read the less I noticed this. Overall Dear Carolina is an excellent light read.
PS. As part of the launch for Dear Carolina there is a giveaway for a $1,000 Shop Design Chic Shopping Spree for one lucky winner. To enter: Send proof of purchase of Dear Carolina (photos are fine!) to readdearcarolina(@)gmail(.)com. Every book is an extra entry!
