Last night I had the absolute pleasure of being the guest for ACX’s #TalkingACX Twitter chat. Our topic: how to market audiobooks. So how can you market your audiobook? Let’s take a look.
- Request reviews from audiobook reviewers. A simple Google search of “audiobook reviewers” gave me:
- Promote with sites that focus on audiobooks like:
- List your audiobook on:
- Your Website
- Goodreads
- Shelfari
- LibraryThing
- Share free copies with influences. If you publish with ACX you get 25 free codes, use them! If you publish with Findaway Voices you also get free codes!
- Host a giveaway (and kindly ask if the reader enjoys the book to consider leaving a review).
- Share a code with your #1 fan on social media.
- Share codes with audiobook reviewers.
- Connect with audiobook groups. Here are a few groups to get you started:
- Tap into social media.
- Use your blog to share your audiobook journey.
- Host your narrator on your blog for an interview.
- If your narrator has a blog, ask if they will interview you.
- Join Twitter chats like #TalkingACX, #StoryDam, #Indiechat, where you can connect with authors and readers.
- Do a video interview or author video.
- Guest on Twitter chats.
- Guest on podcasts related to writing, your genre, or area of interest.
- Inform your mailing list about your audiobook release and consider giving away a copy to your subscribers only.
- Have a blog tour. Ask your blog tour coordinator to offer your audiobook version for review during your tour.
- Reach out to in-person channels:
- Local schools
- Local book clubs
- Local library
- Indie bookstores
- Local bookstore
- Add a link to your audiobook in your ebook.

To recap, there are hundreds of ways authors and narrators can market audiobooks. When I work with authors on social media training my advice is focus on making connections with readers. Instead of thinking of “marketing” as this big scary thing you have to do or fail, think of your “marketing” time as getting to know your readers. Build relationships with them. Spend the time to figure out who would be interested in your audiobook (aka find your target market) and gather where they hang out. Offer valuable content and engagement and you will see the same in return.

Paul (Audiobook Reviewer) says
Hi there, thank you so much for the mention of my audiobook review site! You left one out audiobookjukebox.com
Kate Tilton says
My pleasure Paul!
Since audiobookjukebox doesn’t take review requests I purposefully did not include them in this list. It is a great service however for reviewers to share their reviews.
Paul (Audiobook Reviewer) says
Correct they do not review themselves but they help hookup reviewers with audiobooks to review. It is a great service and its free!
Kate Tilton says
Hi Paul, is there a link to that information? I only saw the place were reviewers could submit their work but nothing for authors. I’d love to add that in.
Paul (Audiobook Reviewer) says
Here you go: http://www.audiobookjukebox.com/solid-gold-reviewer-program under the first heading.
Kate Tilton says
Thanks Paul! I’ve added the resource to the list.
Lloyd Lofthouse says
Thank for this information. Audio books are a way to tap into an audience that probably doesn’t read much from paper or a screen.
Kate Tilton says
Yes, audiobooks are a great platform for authors. I highly suggest authors consider making audiobooks along with their print and ebooks. Thanks for stopping by Lloyd!
Paul (Audiobook Reviewer) says
Correct, I have no time to read. But lots of time to listen!
Face4Audio says
Great suggestions! You may want to edit this, now that audiobookblast has become audiobookboom.com.
Kate Tilton says
Thank you for the info! I’ve updated the post :).
Dario Vanni says
We are just now ready to market a very expensive, professional radio-show style group of 20 (beginning with 7) audio books. Where can they be best marketed? And how can we sell distinguished from the cheap, poorly recorded, one-person narrative old-style audio book. Any help would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance. Dario Vanni
