In the good old days, before self-publishing was seen as a viable option, authors had to rely on big publishing houses to market their books and audiobooks as well as through word of mouth. Today, authors have a unique opportunity to use a variety of social media and websites that will help market their self-published books/audiobooks successfully and at little to no cost to them. There are individuals and groups that gladly read and review books/audiobooks for the cost of a free copy. However, the quality of reviews can sometimes be lacking. Authors need to be aware of the reviewers and their practices.
Consider these questions when selecting a reviewer:
- Is the reviewer known for writing well-balanced reviews?
- Do they have a solid reputation?
- What is their turnaround time?
- Do they enjoy the genre of your book?
- Why are they writing reviews?
- and finally, who will they reach? Although they may be free, it is important that you choose the right reviewer.
For audiobooks, I created Audiobookreviewer.com to help the indie authors and self-publishers. In an effort to make things easy for authors – we all know that their time is better spent creating books – I have an easy to complete process to submit their book for review. Simply click https://audiobookreviewer.com/review-submission/ and follow the form. Each review is free, although authors are requested to consider a slight fee just keep the site working. Each author is asked only essential information such as genre, title, publisher, publication date, narrator, and author. In the submission form, an author also selects the format of the book, inserts a brief synopsis and author may elect to hold a giveaway. There are other promotional options available such as free narrator interviews and to add you to our mailing list. For a slight fee, one can request a featured listing, expedited review and/or ad banners.
Why would anyone choose audiobookreviewer.com over any other? Simple – the volunteers at Audiobook Reviewer care about the books. Each reviewer is committed to listening to books and writing heartfelt honest reviews. Each review is thoughtfully constructed and proofed. While the reviews may be edited for errors, the opinion of the reviewer is never altered. Furthermore, each reviewer respects the author’s effort and puts forth quality reviews that reflect their opinion of the book as well as other useful information. This would include clarity of storyline/plot, was it realistic and were the plots and character developments well done? They also structure their reviews to highlight the unique features that audiobooks have. Such as the narration, was the narrator a good fit for the story, etc. The overall audio production, were there noises recorded that shouldn’t have been, if there were sound effects did they interfere with the story as a whole? Quality reviews are important for authors. We realize that here at Audiobookreviewer.com.
While writing reviews can be time-consuming, reviewers at Audiobookreviewer.com strive to complete them quickly and thoroughly. Each book that is submitted via the website form is moved into a spreadsheet that allows the reviewers to see what is available. They may select from all submissions, with the oldest being reviewed first. Most of our reviewers have a niche they enjoy more than others – we have a few who enjoy listening to all books. By allowing our reviewers to select the books they wish to hear and review, I ensure that each reviewer selects books in the genre they prefer. (There is nothing worse than having a person who despises science fiction review a science fiction book!) Once the review has gone live, I post it at Audible.com, Amazon.com, Facebook, audiobookreviewer.com, downpour.com, and Goodreads. Utilizing a mailing list created and maintained by audiobookreviewer.com allows authors and fans to keep up-to-date on reviews, new publications and more.
As another added bonus for authors, I’m pleased to announce the AudioBook Listener Awards for original works that fall within these genre categories:
- AUDIO DRAMA/MULTI VOICED
- BUSINESS/PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
- GENERAL HORROR
- EXTREME HORROR/SPLATTERPUNK
- LITERARY FICTION
- SCIENCE FICTION

- YOUNG ADULT
